  1. Public Domain Icons

  3.      These icons were originally made for Mosaic for X and have been
  4.      included in the NCSA httpd and Apache server distributions in the
  5.      past. They are in the public domain and may be freely included in any
  6.      application. The originals were done by Kevin Hughes (kevinh@eit.com).
  7.  
  8.      Many thanks to Andy Polyakov for tuning the icon colors and adding a
  9.      few new images. If you'd like to contribute additions or ideas to
  10.      this set, please let me know.

  20. Suggested Uses
  21.  
  22. The following are a few suggestions, to serve as a starting point for ideas.
  23. Please feel free to tweak and rename the icons as you like.

  25.      a.gif
  26.           This might be used to represent PostScript or text layout
  27.           languages.
  28.  
  29.      alert.black.gif, alert.red.gif
  30.           These can be used to highlight any important items, such as a
  31.           README file in a directory.
  32.  
  33.      back.gif, forward.gif
  34.           These can be used as links to go to previous and next areas.
  35.  
  36.      ball.gray.gif, ball.red.gif
  37.           These might be used as bullets.
  38.  
  39.      binary.gif
  40.           This can be used to represent binary files.
  41.  
  42.      binhex.gif
  43.           This can represent BinHex-encoded data.
  44.  
  45.      blank.gif
  46.           This can be used as a placeholder or a spacing element.
  47.  
  48.      bomb.gif
  49.           This can be used to repreesnt core files.

  51.      box1.gif, box2.gif
  52.           These icons can be used to represent generic 3D applications and
  53.           related files.

  55.      broken.gif
  56.           This can represent corrupted data.

  58.      burst.gif
  59.           This can call attention to new and important items.

  62.           This might represent C source code.

  64.      comp.blue.gif, comp.red.gif
  65.           These little computer icons can stand for telnet or FTP
  66.           sessions.

  68.      compressed.gif
  69.           This may represent compressed data.

  72.           This can be a link to a continued listing of a directory.

  74.      down.gif, up.gif, left.gif, right.gif
  75.           These can be used to scroll up, down, left and right in a
  76.           listing or may be used to denote items in an outline.

  79.           This can represent DVI files.

  82.           This might represent FORTRAN or Forth source code.

  84.      folder.gif, folder.open.gif, folder.sec.gif
  85.           The folder can represent directories. There is also a version
  86.           that can represent secure directories or directories that cannot
  87.           be viewed.

  89.      generic.gif, generic.sec.gif, generic.red.gif
  90.           These can represent generic files, secure files, and important
  91.           files, respectively.

  93.      hand.right.gif, hand.up.gif
  94.           These can point out important items (pun intended).

  96.      image1.gif, image2.gif, image3.gif
  97.           These can represent image formats of various types.

  99.      index.gif
  100.           This might represent a WAIS index or search facility.

  102.      layout.gif
  103.           This might represent files and formats that contain graphics as
  104.           well as text layout, such as HTML and PDF files.

  107.           This might represent files that are symbolic links.

  109.      movie.gif
  110.           This can represent various movie formats.

  112.      p.gif
  113.           This may stand for Perl or Python source code.

  116.           These icons can be used in applications where a list of
  117.           documents is returned from a search. The little pie chart images
  118.           can denote how relevant the documents may be to your search
  119.           query.

  122.           This may stand for patches and diff files.

  124.      portal.gif
  125.           This might be a link to an online service or a 3D world.

  127.      ps.gif, quill.gif
  128.           These may represent PostScript files.

  131.           These may represent CAD or engineering data and formats.

  134.           This can represent any of various interpreted languages, such as
  135.           Perl, python, TCL, and shell scripts, as well as server
  136.           configuration files.

  142.           These can represent 3D worlds or rendering applications and

  152.           This can represent FTP transfers or uploads/downloads.
